Better Together: Celebrating Sheffield’s Community Spirit

Project Background

The Better Together Sheffield Project is an initiative funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, established in response to increasing anti-Black and anti-immigrant sentiments in the UK. Scheduled to coincide with International Tolerance Day, this project seeks to unite Sheffield’s diverse communities by promoting active listening, understanding the concerns of different groups, and collaboratively identifying respectful solutions to foster stronger relationships and community cohesion throughout the city. The programme will take place over six days in November 2025, commencing on Monday, 17th November.

On Monday, 17th November 2025, from 18:00 to 21:00 at the 2nd Floor, Speedicut Works, Harleston Street, Sheffield, S4 7QB, a panel discussion will address strategies for strengthening relationships among global majority communities in Sheffield. Three distinguished panellists representing various backgrounds will lay the groundwork for a shared vision of inter-community collaboration.

Tuesday, 18th November 2025, will expand upon these themes by highlighting the contributions of global majority individuals and communities to Sheffield’s rich history. This session, held in Marcus Garvey Hall at SADACCA, 48 The Wicker, Sheffield, S3 8JB, will also feature three panellists from diverse backgrounds and run from 18:00 to 21:00.

On Wednesday, 19th November 2025, leading community members and young people will engage in a ‘Power Networking’ session at Highfield Trinity Church Hall, 11 Holland Place, Sheffield S2 4US, from 18:00 to 21:00.

The final panel discussion will take place on Thursday, 20th November 2025, at the 2nd Floor, Speedicut Works. Focusing on the theme ‘Bridging the Gap,’ the panel will explore practical steps to enhance collaboration between global majority and other communities in Sheffield.

On Friday, 21st November 2025, from 20:00 until 02:00, the Genting Casino, St Paul’s Place, Arundel Gate, Sheffield, S1 2NJ will host the Better Together Sheffield Unity Ball, featuring live performances and music.

The week will culminate on Saturday, 22nd November 2025, at the Gleadless Common Playing Fields from 11:00 with the Unity Cup Football Tournament.
